My top avocado tips:
- Shoppers tend to squeeze and manhandle avocados in stores, damaging and bruising them. Rather buy hard avocados and ripen at home, by wrapping with a newspaper.
- Once ripened, and there are no plans for immediate use, then you can slow further ripening by storing them in the fridge.
- Rather than tossing out an overripe or bruised avocado, I make guacamole, avocado salad dressing, soup or pasta sauce. I save the perfect fleshed avocados for salads.
- Save the pips and try to grow your own avocado tree
- It is easier to scoop the avocado flesh out of its shell with a tablespoon
- Avocado is great friends with lime, lemon, salt, pepper, paprika, minced garlic, chopped chives, fresh coriander, spring onion so mix and match and see what works for you
